The North Atlantic right whale images in this gallery can be used for educational purposes. Proper photo credits should be given. All the images were taken under scientific permits. In the United States, it is forbiden for all vessels to approach closer than 500 yards from a North Atlantic right whale unless in possession of a scientific permit. In Canada, the species is protected under the Species At Risk Act (SARA).
